Gender Equality & Women Empowerment, the role of SME Public Banks

Gender Equality & Women Empowerment, the role of SME Public Banks The Montreal Group celebrates Women Entrepreneurship Day

On November 24 at 9h00 (EDT), The Montreal Group is hosting an online reunion to discuss the role of SME-focused public banks in promoting Gender Equality & Women Empowerment.

Public Development Banks, whether being National, Regional, National Promotional Bank or SME-focused, are key actors in the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Climate Objectives and their contribution is essential to accelerate the realization of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls through the financial system.  In the framework of the Women Entrepreneurs Day celebrated every year on November 19, and, in line with its Sustainable Agenda for the years to come, The Montreal Group’s Secretariat is happy to announce its endorsement, as supporting institution, of both the UN Women Empowerment Principles(WEP) and the Paris Development Banks statement on Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment.

The Montreal Group members were invited to attend a private conversation with representatives from UN Women and the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) to learn more about how SMEs public banks can play an active role in this area and how TMG banks can get access to the studies, practices and tools available to strengthen their individual efforts and become a signatory of the declarations.
